Study Chemistry

The study of chemistry is very time consuming. This is due to the mandatory laboratory courses, which usually have an attendance time of 8-9 hours daily. Second, the high cost is due also to a very high density test. Added to this is that almost all students seeking after graduation with a PhD, which increases the power density and thus the expectation again.

After the Bologna reform, which has made not stop at the study of chemistry involves the study for a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry content that previously belonged to the basic study of the diploma course. They are General Chemistry - General Principles of Chemistry, Physical Chemistry - Chemical Thermodynamics, electrochemistry, reaction kinetics, introduction to quantum mechanics, inorganic chemistry - Inorganic Qualitative Analytical Chemistry, properties of metals and non-metals (so-called chemicals), Organic Chemistry - classes of substances and Functional groups, reaction mechanisms, analytical chemistry - Quantitative Analysis, Structural Analysis, (experimental) physics - general principles of experimental physics (basics of mechanics, electricity, magnetism, optics, thermodynamics, special relativity theory, nuclear physics), Mathematics - Analysis, Analytic Geometry, Linear algebra, and statistics.

The study of the Master of Science in chemistry connects to the bachelor's degree and usually takes 1-2 years. The master is in chemistry often very research oriented.

Universities and job opportunities

A Chmiestudium can begin in Germany currently at 56 universities and technical colleges. Also 21 colleges offer a bachelor of science degree in chemistry at the university. The ratio of male to female student moves are usually around 40%. End of 2008, some 27,000 students enrolled for a degree in chemistry. 4229 students began the study in 2008, 1384 promotions were submitted.

In the past there was the idea that a university chemistry course in a job by the chemical industry almost certainly a result. Especially in Germany, where several major pharmaceutical companies have their headquarters, the prospects were very bright. In recent years, due to globalization, however, many companies are unstructured. From today's chemistry graduates is expected by most high school graduates from other Fächr also expected to be able to think entrepreneurially. The University of Karlsruhe with the statement about the fact that there Chemical-Entrepreneurship is offered as a subject. However, the extent to which this student better prepared for today's job market will be waiting.
